OUR HISTORY
The Ackworth Community Library was formed as a charitable Trust in 2013 following the closure of the local authority library.
Housed in the Parish Council Rooms in Ackworth, West Yorkshire, over the years the Library has developed into an essential community hub for the village and its surrounding areas.
The Library has a growing membership who loan books, but also provides so much more to the wider community with our regular activities and available services:
- Children's Story Times on Wednesdays and Fridays are hugely popular with pre-schoolers and parents alike, each story being followed by a fun craft activity
- School Holiday Activities give children and carers a chance to meet up during term breaks to build new friendships and hone their crafting skills
- School Visits help introduce local primary school pupils to the wonderful world of books
- Friday Coffee Mornings are when members of our community come together to enjoy cake, a warm drink and the company of others… and perhaps even help out with the communal jigsaw!
- Daily Library Services include computer, printing and photocopying facilities, free Wi-Fi, as well as a selection of second-hand books and jigsaws for sale.
- Refreshments (including our fabulous homemade cakes!) are available to purchase, and during winter months the Library provides a warm space and free hot drink for many of our community.
In addition to these regular activities, the Library also hosts a number of seasonal events that have become a popular fixture in the local calendar.
Through our ongoing fundraising efforts, and with the support of our Trustees, staff, volunteers, and members - not to mention the Ackworth Parish Council - the Ackworth Community Library aims to continue providing a warm and welcoming space for the people of Ackworth for many years to come.
